Northfield Ambulance Service (NAS)
NAS is a 24 hour a day, 365 day a year Emergency Service
providing basic life support, advanced life support and vehicle extrication services
to Northfield, West Berlin, Roxbury, and Riverton communities in Central
Vermont. NAS is part of Vermont’s District 6 EMS and follows district specific
protocols as well as state protocols.
NAS consists of First Responders (FR), Emergency Medical Technicians-
Basic (EMT-B), and Emergency Medical Technicians- Intermediate (EMT-I) as well
as non certified observing members. An ambulance crew at a minimum must have a Certified
Driver, and an EMT-B certified as a crew chief, but can grow up to an additional
two crew members, one being an observer.
NAS is located in downtown Northfield at 31 Dog River Run
Road. The building is shared with the Northfield town highway department and is
home to two ambulances, one rescue truck, one command trailer, one off road
rescue unit, a meeting room and director’s office.
NUEMS’ s relationship with NAS is very close. NUEMS is a division
of NAS. This means active certified members in NUEMS are also active certified
members of NAS. In return they can respond and participate in standbys on
campus therefore under NAS licensure. In order to be an active member in NAS,
NUEMS members run at minimum one six hour shift a week and attend training
every month.
